iPhone 3G Or No iPhone 3G ?
Here's an article by Jim Lynch on www.extremetech.com
10 Reason Why I Won't Buy The 3G iPhone BY Mr. Jim Lynch
Now, read it and come back here and read my counter-reasons to Mr. Lynch's reasoning.
10) Price : are you frigging kidding me ? 199 USD is too much for you and you were looking for a 99 USD price ? Dude, might as well wish for everything to be FREE !!! Do you have any idea of the cost of the Blackberry 8820 with AT&T 2-year contract ? 299.99 USD. The AT&T Tilt ? 299.99 with same 2-year contract. And I have seen more Blackberries around than anything else. And you still asking for an iPhone for 99USD ? Yeah, ok. We still get to the same point : can't afford it? Stop bitching about it.
9) iPhone says it all. Why do you people keep complaining about games and games and frigging games to be available for the iPhone ? Buy yourself a Sony PSP or a Nintendo DS or whatever else IS MADE to play games. This is a FRIGGING PHONE !!! Can't you get it ?
8) The App Store : if you consider that the majority of the applications that will be available at the App Store will make a good use of data communications, why would you stick with the old EDGE iPhone and not go with the faster 3G ? Mail is received/sent faster, web pages are loaded faster and every single application that will use the 3G connection will SIMPLY connect faster, PERIOD !
7) Storage : 16GB is not enough ? What do you want, a 500GB hard drive in a phone ? For what?
Listen to music ? Buy yourself an iPod.
Watching movies ? Buy yourself a PMP (I'd suggest you an Archos 705)
Applications ? Majority of applications won't be bigger than a megabyte which will allows (theoretically) your iPhone to have almost 2000 applications. Ahem, do you seriously think you're gonna buy that many applications...? I SO DON'T THINK SO !
6) No camera upgrade. Now, all over again, WHO CARES ABOUT THE CAMERA IN A PHONE !!! buy yourself what they call a REAL DIGITAL CAMERA !!! Nowadays, you can buy a more than decent DSLR for way less that 1,000 USD. Now, that's what a digital camera is made for, not the iPhone !!!
5) No video chat. What's the big deal with this one ? Are you really dying to see someone's else face when you're talking to him/her while on a MOBILE phone? Again, it's a phone built to be a phone, not a toy to have fun with and make sure you look nice if someone is looking at you on a video call...If that's the case, get on an online chat system and there you go, you can show your pretty face to anyone you want.
4) Thinner 3G iPhone : so, what's wrong in being the 3G iPhone thinner than the original iPhone ? Nothing but may the better handling of it. Still, not really a reason for bitching about it. NO REASON WHATSOEVER.
3) Microsoft Exchange : purely made for businesses, not for everyday consumers. You are not going to use it, others will. You don't like it ? Fair enough. Remember that it was put there SIMPLY to accomodate ENTERPRISES DEMAND, not consumer's demand. So, basically, you're out of the picture, Mr.
2) GPS : OMG, I am so sorry. The GPS on the iPhone doesn't speak. Holy Cow, I am lost without a voice guidance. ARE YOU KIDDING ME ? What do you need, a voice manual to get you through the Playstation 3 setup or the Xbox 360 setup or anything else's setup ? Com'on, don't be ridiculous. With or without voice, it's still A-GPS which means it can tell you almost exactely where your sorry ass is and where you want to take it !!!
Oh, BTW, it appears that TomTom has already developed an iPhone version of their GPS software and, guess what, THAT ONE TALKS !!! Yeah !!!
1) 3G. 10 USD more a month for 3G connection is a rip-off ? Mr. where do you live ? It's 3 times more expensive in Canada, roughly twice as expensive in Italy and you're bitching about a mere 10 USD raise for a much better and faster connection ? WoW. NO COMMENT, Mr.
Bonus Reason : White. OMG, now we get to bitch about a phone color. YOU CAN'T POSSIBLY BE FOR REAL, Mr. It's called CONSUMER CHOICE.
If you don't like it white, stick to the Black. Nobody really cares. It's each consumer choice and, honestly, you can't use that AGAINST Apple.
Everyone's his/her own opinion. Let's try to be fair and not pure jackasses with unreal questioning and bitching.
It always come to the same point, over and over again.
You can't afford it ? Sucks to be you. You don't like it ? Your choice.
Many will be able to afford it (even more now that it will be sold at JUST 299 USD for the 16G
and majority will love it (and the sales of the original iPhone just prove I am right).
So, in this case, stick with a 99$ USD crappy and ugly phone with a 1.8" screen and slow like molasses. Majority of us will DEFINITELY ENJOY the beautiful 3.5" screen of the iPhone and it's awesome OS which almost never fails to deliver (contrary to a well know to SUCK Windows Mobile !!!).
Thanks for sharing with us more crap and showing how people like you shouldn't even dream of having a phone like the iPhone. You simply don't deserve it. PERIOD !!!
Live Long And Prosper (possibly without all this BS.)
Apple iPhone 3G
Well, it's finally here.
Apple finally unveiled the new iPhone, an updated phone for the latest networks around the world (whether it's 3G or 3.5G).
What's new ? Check the exact specs on Apple website
Will I buy it soon ? HELL YEAH.
Why ? Because I find it absolutely more appealing than any other Windows Mobile or Symbian phone (see various Samsung/SonyEricsson/HTC and Nokias) and more stable than crappy WiMo 6.
I am a cell phone freak, yes. I had so many cell phones I can't even count them anymore...
As of today, my next phones will be the iPhone 3G and the new Blackberry 9000 (Blackberry Bold).
It's not just about the phones specifications. It also, and mainly, about DESIGN.
Nothing beats the iPhone in design and the Blackberry Bold is just too damn sexy too.
So, long live the iPhone for me.
If you don't like it, hey, it's a free world, your choice. Stop bitching about it and saying it's crap compared to WiMo phones.
From experience, WiMo phones are terribly slow, chunky and with a pathetic GUI (Graphic User Interface).
So, you can't use a bluetooth headset to listen to your music. BUY an iPod !
So, you can't take decent pictures. BUY a friggin' digital camera, a REAL one !
So, you can't make coffee. BUY a stupid coffee maker !
It's a phone, for crying out loud. Stop whining about what it can't do and appreciate it for what IT CAN DO !
Oh, and one last thing : you can't afford it? Sucks to be you, stop bitching and saying it's too expensive.
Did you see the latest prices of WiMo phones ? Well over $600 if you want it unlocked (so to use it anywhere with a different sim) and around the same price of the iPhone for some WiMo phones with a plan.
If you can't afford it, go for a normal voice plan with a 3rd rate phone.
A Technician Point Of View…about Personal Computers And Operating Systems…
Technology nowadays is way too fast.
I still remember when I used to deal with dos-based systems and text-only web browsers…or remember the first Windows ? or even better remember the first cpu’s (in other terms, processors)?
Wow, remember the first MS Office Edition, a whooping 17 floppies for the installation?
Remember the first time you were able to “network” two pc’s together…?
Well, what follows is my reply to a forum-based article on http://www.wincustomize.com/ which I truly believe is totally unfair and based on total disinformation and disrespect toward those people called “the average customer” (and let me say I have been even too nice towards them…)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Beside the fact that Vista is experiencing the same "sickness" of Windows Xp when it first came out (not every single driver was available, compatibility issues and so on, so on...), you should explain some of my customers this "statement of yours" (see below...)
"End users don't HAVE a choice in operating systems, or at least not one they are aware of, when they purchase their computers. They basically get whatever the manufacturer loads, and you can't find manufacturers loading their machines with XP. Getting a new machine loaded with LINUX is actually easier than getting a new one loaded with XP."
Ahem, dude, where are you living, the Moon...?
There is still plenty of choices for the less than average to the average and high-end user to buy Windows Xp Pro/Media Center-based computers.
If you check online, there are plenty of desktop and laptops/notebooks available with Windows Xp, ranging from $400 to over $7,000 (see Dell, Acer, HP/Compaq, Lenovo and so on...)...
You might want to stay a bit more up-to-date, "Mr. Support Technician"...
More..."Getting a new machine loaded with LINUX is actually easier than getting a new one loaded with XP."....
Ahem, it maybe true that more machines are coming out with Linux...but wait, are we still talking about "average customers"...? Because if we are... uhm, majority of "average customers" can't even deal with the "problems" given by Windows Xp (less than the beginning but still lots) and you want to give them Linux-based machines...(since installation to running to software updates Linux IS NOT a machine for the "average Joe"...
And more..."(but Mac still sucks! LOL!)"...
WOW, that's even better...
What's your take in that, Mr. Support Technician...? Is that maybe because Macs are the most widely used systems as high-end machines (see video and audio software widely used by communications, advertisement companies) ? Or because they are so good that "almost never" crash, programs rarely fail/quit ?
Or you simply don't like Mac because they are not good for chatting or games...?
Macs were NOT made for chatting or games.
Macs are NOT average user machines (although few more average Joes are finding them far more appealing than Windows-based machines)...
Let's see...
1) You suggest a machine to your customer based on his/her needs.
2) You have the ability and the knowledge to present your customer with a wide choice (from few hundred bucks to over $10,000) (again, based on his/her needs)...
3) You ARE informed about the old, not so old and the latest technology so that you are a respectable Tech and/or seller..
4) You have the knowledge to be able to define the differences between different systems and/or different brands and not just say that one "still sucks"...
5) If I were to read/listen to you as a It tech or seller, I would never buy/take any advice from you because you sound the classic "big store chain" seller (and it really doesn't matter for which company or country) who would say anything to sell anything...
Last but not least...finally VISTA !
What's wrong with it...? Nice to see, new Os (not a big deal since we are used to Microsoft line-up of Os's in the past 15 years...Dos, Windows 95/98/Me/2000/2003Xp/Xp Media Center/Vista, wow, does it ever end...?), same initial troubles as Windows Xp (compatibility issues, lack of specific drivers, unexpected behavior and so on...)...
Still, would you recommend Vista to someone who needs a machine to check emails or surf the web...?
If you do, either you don't care about the customer or you never seen/used Vista or never really realized how many "customers" still deal with Xp problems today (hardware and software) and it's one of the many reasons why companies like Hp/Compaq, Dell, Lenovo, Acer, Asus and so on still HAVE customer support personnel (yes, I worked for one of these companies) for the average "Joe" and non.
So, while Windows Vista is "cool" (I have Vista Ultimate on my laptop and it's doing pretty good although I have a high-end one), there are still very few programs which runs fine or with very few "flaws" and there are still drivers compatibility issues just like Windows Xp in the beginning....and therefore it's "still" not really something you would suggest the average "customer" to buy (beside the price tag of more than $300 just for Vista and more for Office 2007!!!)
64 bit computing...?
Tell me how many programs natively runs in 64 bit then explain your customers why even Macs (which are 64 bit platforms) and Mac OS X (which is a 64 bit OS) still have to provide "Universal" so that majority of today's 32 Bit software can run, in a 64 bit platforms and OS...since 99% of the biggest companies (see Adobe, Autodesk and so on), still don't have full 64 bit releases of their software...
These are some of the reasons why I never buy computers from companies like Futureshop/cdw/compusa (etc, etc, etc) and why I always have customers thanking me for not letting them waste money and time with systems/Os's that are inappropriate for them...
And other reasons where it happens that I NEVER, in my life, had to call Customer Support...
Not everybody can be this lucky but doesn't mean that misleading information should be given as well...
Knowledge and balance of opinion should be the main rule but we can all see that it still doesn't happen (and it's 2007, folks) and it may never happen...
Just a few thoughts from an ex customer support agent and a hardware-software technician whose customers appreciate for his honesty and judgment, not for his BS...
